MARCUS AGRIPPA - The Man who made Augustus Roman Emperor

Marcus Agrippa is the emperor who was never emperor. The man who made Augustus and stood by his side, facilitating the longest and one of the most successful reigns in Rome's history. Born to a poor equestrian family out in the sticks, he enlisted in the army and caught the eye of none other than Julius Caesar. Sent off to study in Greece with his then-nephew Octavian, Agrippa's promise was such that he never left the future emperor's side. He became an incredibly successful military leader on land and sea, and without him, Augustus would probably have never beaten Marc Antony to rise to power. As admiral and general, none could best him. On top of that Agrippa was a talented architect, geographer and writer - he even built the original pantheon and was so famous that even when the one we see today was built under Hadrian, it still bears his name! He lived a dangerous but rich life, and beyond his military victories did much in service of the Roman people, providing fresh water, food and quality infrastructure. Agrippa - Three Books of Occult Philosophy - Mystical Philosophy of Mathematics & Celestial Magic

Agrippa's 1533 Three Books of Occult Philosophy is the most classic work on the philosophy of magic in the western world. In a previous episode, we explored his occult philosophy of language, this week I turn to his occult philosophy of mathematics: the very bridge between the physical and celestial worlds. For Agrippa, turning to the purely formal world of mathematics and numbers, we discover the very inner logic of the divine on our journey towards spiritual reunification with just that primordial unity of divinity. Let's deep dive into the magic of harmony, proportion, numerals, sacred geometry and music - the systems of correspondence at the heart of modern magic and esotericism ! #occult #agrippa #magic

Number One at Being Number Two: Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa

History remembers the rulers and the leaders. We know of Napoleon, Caesar, Elizabeth, Ghengis Khan, and Captain Picard. However, for every one of the people I just listed, their success was due in large part to the people who worked underneath them. The ones who carried out their orders and made sure things got done. They had to have a competent number two. In this episode, I will put forward that the greatest number two in history was Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. Learn more about the person who was number one at being number two on this episode of Everything Everywhere Daily. The Three Books of Occult Philosophy - Cornelius Agrippa - Renaissance Hermeticism Cabala and Magic

Cornelius Agrippa's 1533 The Three Books of Occult Philosophy is, perhaps, the most famous magical tome in western history. In it, he describes the process by which the magus may return to their prelapsarian, semi-divine state through the process of a reformed natural, celestial and ceremonial magic. Neither a textbook nor a summa, this work is often more celebrated or maligned than actually understood. What does Agrippa actually teach? How do we square his Hermetic idealism with his otherwise radically skeptical attitudes in his other major work of this period? This episode of Esoterica examines this (in)famous text of magic, astrology and cabala. #agrippa #occult #philosophy #magic

Agrippa - Three Books of Occult Philosophy - Mystical Philosophy of Language, Mind & Magic

Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy (complete in 1533) is, perhaps, the most complete and systematic exploration of the philosophy of magic in western history. Core to his conception of magic is a highly developed philosophy of mind and language. In this episode I'll be diving deep into the core mechanism of Agrippa's theory of Magic by exploring his philosophy of mind and language. Hope you join me as I unpack this decisively important section of this influential tome! #occult #philosophy #agrippa

Paul explains himself to King Agrippa (Acts 26)

After Paul for many years had preached the gospel about Jesus and the resurrection outside Israel, he went up to Jerusalem to give a present to his people and to sacrifice (Acts 24:17). When he was discovered at the temple the Jews attacked him and if not the Roman authorities had intervened, he certainly would have been killed (Acts 21). Then he was first brought in for the Sanhedrin (Jewish court), but here came the Sadducees and Pharisees in conflict with each other, and the Roman commander had to intervene again to save Paul (Acts 23). Paul was then transferred to Caesarea, where new interrogations took place after the high priest Ananias, along with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, had also arrived in Caesarea. They accused Paul before the Roman governor, Felix, and to appease the Jews, Felix imprisoned Paul (Acts 24) After two years in prison, Paul was brought before Festus, Felix's successor. Paul appealed to the emperor, and Festus acquiesced, intending to send Paul to Rome. A few days later, King Agrippa and his sister Bernice (with whom Agrippa had an incestuous relationship) arrived for a visit. Festus told King Agrippa about Paul's case, admitting that he was at a loss as to how to handle the matter. Agrippa's curiosity was piqued, and he asked to hear what Paul had to say (Acts 25). The next day, Paul was brought before Festus, Agrippa, Bernice, and other officials gathered in the audience chamber of the palace , where Festus announced that he needed specific charges against Paul before sending him to Emperor Nero. King Agrippa gave Paul leave to speak his mind (Acts 26). Paul spoke boldly, outlining his Roman citizenship, reputation, past history as a Pharisee of the Law, and conversion to Christianity. In the course of his speech he laid out the gospel clearly to all who were gathered. This video-clip is from 'Book of Acts' - which is one of the films distributed by the Jesus Film Project. 🤍

Masculinity and Community: Marcus Agrippa, Protector

There are studies showing that men are more likely than women to prefer reading non-fiction: 🤍 Look out for further short videos introducing you to interesting and important figures from the past you might like to read about. On the Sept 2nd 31BC Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa defeated Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium. Despite obscure and lowly background, Agrippa rose to be the powerful deputy of Augustus, helping him take power after Julius Caesar’s murder in 44 BC. And his life is a powerful example of masculinity in service of the community. Shortly afterwards, he spent two years away on successful campaigns in Aquitania and on the Rhine River. When he returned to Italy, he declined a triumph - the greatest possible Roman honour. He was simply doing his duty. Soon afterwards, he become consul. Despite no naval experience, he then won two decisive naval battles against Sextus Pompeius in 36. He had built his own harbour, his own ships, invented a new weapon and sunk 30 ships while only losing 3. He was awarded a golden crown but - again - declined a Triumph. He then went on to quell rebellions and found colonies, administering parts of the empire before becoming magistrate of public works and buildings. Despite this being a lower post than his consulship - and despite having no experience in the role - he embraced it and excelled in it. He introduced not only a new administration policy but a permanent staff, creating the model for successive generations. He cleaned the sewers, built baths, scrubbed the water supply and oversaw the construction of 700 cisterns and 130 water towers. When the City’s budget ran out, he used his own money. And then came the confrontation with Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium in 31. Agrippa smashed Antony's forces, sinking or capturing 200 ships, forcing the Egyptian fleet to flee mid-battle. Antony fled with them, but Agrippa pursued, landing at Alexandria and defeating the Egyptians on land. Octavian then annexed Egypt, changing his name to Imperator Augustus Caesar. And that was the beginning of the Roman Empire. Agrippa went on to conduct the Empire’s first census, purge the senate (over which he was given full veto power) and build the Pantheon, still standing - remarkably - in almost entirely its original form today. He also fought wars in Spain and Illyria, declining two more Triumphs. Late in life, he established colonies for veterans who had served with him. When Agrippa died, Augustus gave his eulogy, spent a month in mourning and buried him in his own mausoleum. And whenever you measure anything in feet, remember Agrippa: his foot was the standard.

Ezoterinin Filozofu Cornelius Agrippa

Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa

Occultist. Theologian. Mercenary. Soldier. Physician. Spy. Scholar. Legal Expert. Peripatetic Polymath. Prisoner. Heretic. Certainly someone who lived a full life, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa looms large over the Occult, and is an obvious addition to the Fools Gallery. He is certainly one of the Titans of Magic, anyone seriously interested in the Occult must give Agrippa his due. In one book (or three) De Occulta Philosophia, it was Agrippa's contention that there could be a synthetic vision of magic whereby the natural world combined with the Celestial and the Divine. On this Episode, Douglas is joined by Reverend Erik from Arnemancy; another fantastic Podcast, where we try to unspool the influence of the Knight Wizard that is Agrippa. 🤍 🤍

Agrippa was a Remarkable Roman that you Probably Haven’t Heard of.

Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa was a Roman statesman and general who lived from 63 BC to 12 BC. He was a close friend and ally of the first Roman emperor, Augustus, and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Roman Empire. Agrippa was a brilliant military commander and strategist, and he led many successful military campaigns on behalf of Augustus. He is perhaps best known for his victory over Mark Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, which paved the way for Augustus to become the sole ruler of Rome. Agrippa also oversaw many important construction projects in Rome, including the Pantheon and the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. Agrippa was not only a skilled military commander and engineer, but also a shrewd politician. He served as Augustus' right-hand man and helped him to consolidate power and establish the new political system of the Roman Empire. Agrippa was also a key figure in Augustus' propaganda campaign, which aimed to present the new regime as a continuation of the old Roman Republic. Despite his many accomplishments, Agrippa remained humble and dedicated to his work until his death. His legacy as a loyal and capable servant of the Roman Empire is still celebrated today, and his name remains synonymous with military prowess and engineering excellence.
