ECOMIX is Brightwell Dispensers' unique chemical dilution system. Connected to mains water, it dilutes a pre-determined ratio of concentrates into a final ready-to-use solution. It is available in low-flow (4L/min) and high-flow (14L/min) versions. The dilution ratio on the ECOMIX is set with our patented dilution ring, the flexibility of which enables easily interchangeability without the use of any tool. The ECOMIX chemical dilution system can draw chemical from any sized container. ECOMIX - Assessing and Managing the Impacts of Mixtures of Chemicals on UK Freshwater Biodiversity in a Changing World - is one of the 5 research projects within the new Understanding changes in quality of UK Freshwaters programme. The programme has been funded by NERC and DEFRA to improve the water quality of UK rivers and investigate the impact of different sources of pollution. Professor Brown introduces his project which will develop a novel assessment framework for assessing the real impacts of chemical pollution in UK rivers, allowing us to identify and manage hotspots of risk thus helping to halt the decline in freshwater biodiversity. The framework will be developed not only to assess currently chemical impacts but also future impacts resulting from climate change, urbanisation and population growth. It will allow mitigation/adaptation approaches to be targeted where they will have the greatest benefit. It will deliver models for assessing the impacts of chemical mixtures and co-stressors on biodiversity. The project is being led by Professor Alistair Boxall (University of York); Project co-leaders: Professor Lorraine Maltby (University of Sheffield); Professor Sim Reaney (University of Durham) The project will assess ecological impacts at 350 locations across nine Yorkshire river catchments - Rivers Aire, Calder, Derwent, Don, Nidd, Ouse, Swale, Ure and Wharfe - covering different land-uses and pollution pressures.
