Here is my Hilleberg Soulo tent review. This one person tent is probably the best 1 person tent in the world. It is a true 4 season tent and expedition tent. This backpacking tent has proven itself all over the worse in the harshest of conditions. I use this one person tent when I'm out in the mountains in harsh environment when the weather is unpredictable and changeable. In the majority of normal wild camping situation a budget tent will suffice but sometimes you need a stronger camping tent. This is a spacious wild camping tent, plenty big enough for me at 5' 8". Dimensions are 95cm tall x 220cm long and 105cm wide (max) plus a 55cm wide (max) vestible. Details: Minimum Weight 2.0 kg Packed Weight 2.4 kg (plus 226 grams for the groundsheet) Outer tent fabric Kerlon 1200 Poles (9 mm) 2 x 344, 1 x 285 cm Pegs 12 V-Peg What Hilleberg say: SINCE THE SOULO’S FREE STANDING construction allows it to be pitched almost anywhere, and since it is remarkably light and tremendously strong, it is ideal for almost any adventure. Dome construction with multiple pole crossing points provide outstanding snow-load handling capability. Plenty of room for one occupant and his or her gear. Linked but seperable inner and outer tent for simultaneous pitching. Fully free standing dome design requires no pegs for pitching, and the straightforward short sleeve and clip pole system make for quick, easy set up. The single entrance/single vestibule configuration affords easy access as well as storage space. An optional footprint covers the entire area of the outer tent, including the vestibules. It connects directly to the tent, and can be left attached during pitching. The inner tent can be replaced with a Mesh Inner tent (sold separately; see accessories). The outer and inner tents can be used separately. Pitching the inner tent alone requires optional pole holders (see accessories). ……. Thoughts So Far : … Impressive Quality Easy setup : - I love the fact that the poles don’t have to go through sleeves. They can be a huge pain. Poles are color coated for easy setup. Exposed Poles : There is a con to having exposed poles though; they are exposed and will cover in snow and ice. This isn’t the biggest problem in the world but it can slow you down in some situations - example, if the snow/moisture falls on the poles, it can freeze and then you have to take the time to thaw them to pull them apart so that you can break down the tent. Tent features a fly first pitch; the body is attached to the fly and the tent can be setup in the rain and snow and the inner will stay dry during the setup process. Tent is truly freestanding - fly doesn’t require staking. Stuff sack is plenty big for the tent. Protective flap over zipper Zipper lock so it can’t open in bad weather Fly goes all the way down to the ground Bathtub floor Can sit-up in the tent - plenty of space, doesn’t feel like a coffin. I took my Hilleberg Soulo into the mountains to give it a wind and rain test and the weather gods obliged – with 60km/h winds and hours of heavy rain. Out with my Hilleberg Soulo tent for another wild camping trip. Not really sure if I need this tent and if I should actually keep it or not. Was not able to get parked down towards Glencoe as I had planned so switched to my Plan-B. My old camp spot was a little more exposed and windier than planned. However it did let me test out the Hilleberg Soulo's well-known stability again first hand in some rather windy weather. The Hilleberg Soulo is meant to be the best 1 Person, Four Season expedition tent currently on the market. After many years having avoided trying one I have decided to bite the bullet and give one a go. Conditions looked great for a winter wild camp on a mountain summit close to the Glencoe Ski Centre, but as dusk fell the weather didn’t half take a turn for the worse. However it was ideal to show how quickly the weather can turn whilst out in the mountains and provided an unexpected test of the Hilleberg Soulo's capabilities during windy weather. Two weeks ago I traveled eight hours by train and bus to Grövelsjö mountain station to hike solo into Femundsmarka National Park in Norway and fish for a few days. No set route, just approximate destinations, off the main trail. It was a fantastic adventure on the mountain, in the forest, by lakes and streams in a fantastically beautiful autumn nature. Hilleberg Soulo Red Label one-man solo tent - setup and initial look. Combined with Sea To Summit Ether Light XT Insulated Mat and Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite SOL insulated mat. Kerlon 1200 outer tent fabric and 9mm poles make for a very lightweight yet supremely stable tent. All season construction: outer tent walls extend to the ground and mesh areas are backed with adjustable fabric panels. Dome construction with multiple pole crossing points provide outstanding snow-load handling capability. Plenty of room for one occupant and his or her gear. Linked but seperable inner and outer tent for simultaneous pitching. Fully free standing dome design requires no pegs for pitching, and the straightforward short sleeve and clip pole system make for quick, easy set up. The single entrance/single vestibule configuration affords easy access as well as storage space. An optional footprint covers the entire area of the outer tent, including the vestibules. My Hilleberg Soulo resists wind speed up to 70 km/h near north cape. I camped at Kåfjord near north cape in June 2018 during a 10.000 km long trip through Germany, Denmark, Norway, Russia, Baltic States, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria,... with my recumbent bicycle.

This is our camping video of us wild camping in a storm. Storm Eunice came shortly after Storm Dudley and we took the opportunity to wild camp in a storm and test out all our camping gear. We took every precaution including in-depth planning and taking the new Garmin inReach Mini 2 and lots of winter backpacking gear. We went hiking up to the summit of Cadair Idris in Snowdonia via the Minffordd Path. We were welcomed by snow and ice and of course the freezing cold strong winds from the storm. After summiting we got the rest of our camping kit from the car and made our way back up the mountain to go camping in a storm. Visit my new Amazon Shop! 🤍 I used my Hilleberg Soulo tent. This is a true 4 season tent capable of withstanding high winds, rain and storms. It didn't let me down. Camping in heavy rain and camping in strong winds is possible if you've got a decent backpacking tent, pitch your tent in a position with some shelter and peg it down properly and use all the guy lines too. Please only go wild camping in strong winds if you have the skills, experience and gear to see you through. I would recommend camping in groups if you go wild camping in heavy rain as if some of your backpacking kit fails your friends can help you out. I took most of my hiking and camping footage when the storm was momentarily easing to assist with audio and visual quality. I have also filtered some of the background rain and wind noise too. However, I can assure you the storm was battering us throughout most parts of both days and certainly the majority of the night. This is a genuine video, not one of those solo 'camping in strong winds' videos where the whole wild camping video is acted out from start to finish.
